Within this context, your mission in this FP&A role is to provide expert support for the planning, evaluation and monitoring process for all investment proposals relating to capital projects, restructuring and acquisitions and divestments. In doing so you ensure transparent processes for pre-submission sign off, submission and approval, thereby contributing to the more effective expedition of projects.

Investment Review Group (IRG) Analyst

The role and its responsibilities
This highly influential role is based at our Global Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Your core responsibility is to work with our business units, and functions worldwide to strengthen and professionalize the planning, evaluation and monitoring process of investment proposals. In doing so you safeguard the integrity of the financial and governance aspects of requests and the approval process, including valuation models, financial assumptions and logical flow of inputs versus results of the assessments. This involves a number of activities:

M&A
You support Corporate M&A on the financial aspects of acquisition and divestment projects, reviewing financial paragraphs in key transaction documents and maintaining the corporate valuation, acquisition and divestment models.

Further, you review the consistency of valuation ranges made in non-binding bid phases as well as valuations used for making final bids. You also support M&A project managers in the analysis of financial data and participate in project teams at different phases of the M&A-process.

Workflow (RFA)
You perform detailed reviews of individual investment approval requests relating to CAPEX, Restructuring and M&A, working with the Corporate Secretary Office on approval route/timing of specific requests and the application of the authority schedule.
Further, you act as a Workflow key-user, assisting on questions regarding the tool and hosting user trainings. You also update people/functions involved in pre-submission sign off, acting as a liaison with technical support as well as using reporting functionalities to report KPIs of the investment approval request (AR) review process on monthly basis.

IRG policies
You own and manage investment IRG policies and safeguard standard approaches, and you maintain the IRG intranet share point (both internal and external). This requires you to develop templates for various categories of requests, principles for project evaluation, and practical guidance for submission.
Further, you describe policies and standard approaches regarding capital projects, restructurings and M&A projects e.g. templates, evaluation tools, project (post) evaluation, payback calculation, WACC and hurdle rate, project organization, synergy assessment and valuation, M&A approach, due diligence etc.

Centre of Expertise
You act as a central expert for financial evaluation/risk assessment and you keep the Project Evaluator, Acquisition Model and Divestment Model up to date including user guide and specific trainings. You also ensure that each project team is properly trained and you prepare instructions and training materials.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Finance Analyst with more than 6 years of experience in a FP&A role and/or controlling in strategic/transactional/operational finance and capable of analyzing complex processes and issues;
  • Master degree in Accounting (i.e. RA, CA / CMA), Finance or Business (i.e. MBA) or equivalent;
  • Strategic thinker with strong financial and business analytical skills with the ability to analyze and assimilate data for critical business decisions in timely manner;
  • Ability to manage and connect stakeholders on different levels of the organization;
  • Previous experience in working in FP&A departments with global scope across multiple time zones;
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high value adding analysis;
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to articulate recommendations across all layers in the organization in a concise and timely manner;
  • Strong ‘can-do’ mentality and ‘drive’ to accomplish tasks and deliver results;
  • Good Excel/ Powerpoint knowledge;
  • Good Knowledge of Hyperion (HFM);
  • Experience in ‘change management’ in a finance environment is preferred.
