Risk Policy and Regulatory Specialist - NIBC Bank N.V.

Location: The Hague
Employment: Full-time
NIBC is looking for a team member to join its Group Risk Management team as a risk policy and regulatory specialist.

Job Description:

Why would you want to work for Group Risk Management?

As a risk policy and regulatory specialist you will have a dual role that spans on one side the creation, implementation and ownership of (risk) policies, and on the other their application and understanding in the business and across the bank. The sub-team translates complex regulatory text into fit-for-purpose rules that allow the bank to thrive while maintaining its compliance. Then, we help colleagues interpret these rules in the myriad of situations (and edge cases) real-life loans go through.

In addition, the sub-team is involved in change management and support of large-scale risk and regulatory projects. The team also provides input to various committees and strategic initiatives on regulatory developments, which are becoming increasingly more important. You will work in close collaboration with business, modelling, data, finance, restructuring, and operations teams and quickly gain a meaningful insight into the functioning of a bank. In this respect, you will also learn how commercial and risk activities complement each other. As part of the diverse Group Risk Management, consisting also of many nationalities and backgrounds, you will have the opportunity to make an impact from day one.

What will you do?

The risk policy and regulatory specialist position offers a talented and ambitious professional the opportunity to be at the heart of the organisation. Your activities may include:

  • Create, update, and monitor bank-wide (risk) policies and associated procedures that impact the day-to-day work of professionals working on all parts of the lifecycle of a loan
  • Involve, excite, and educate stakeholders from all corners of the bank on risk and prudential regulation
  • Provide critical advice on both individual clients and on portfolio-level on short notice and under uncertainty
  • Gain insight into regulatory developments and work on specific regulatory requests for information and analyses, including impact studies
  • Participating in bank-wide projects on the implementation and monitoring of (new) regulations, including in IT systems and data management
  • Steer process improvements and efficiency gains with a compliant-by-default approach
  • Create visual materials and e-trainings and lead workshops on default, forbearance, loan origination, and other bank-wide processes

What will you need?

  • Ability to charm both nerdy regulatory experts and boisterous bankers
  • The focus and rigor to go through cryptic, laborious regulatory texts combined with the skill and attitude to write in a clear and captivating way with the end user in mind
  • The capacity to go through enormous amount of information in days (or even hours) and the confidence to make impactful decisions on the backdrop of uncertainty and regulatory ambiguity
  • Broad understanding of financial concepts and curiosity for all parts of a loan’s lifecycle
  • Flexible team player who cannot help but take ownership and drive change
  • Academic education and ideally three to five years of experience working in banking or consulting
  • A good sense of humour and an ability to handle uncertainty or stress
  • A sound grasp of English (as the main language for communication at NIBC)
  • Ideally 3-5 years of relevant work experience

What you will get?

  • As much responsibility as you can handle
  • A steep learning curve
  • Be an important part of the team learning from the diverse experience of its members
  • An open, fun and challenging work environment where you can directly see the impact of your work given the smaller scale of our dynamic bank
  • A deeper understanding of how a bank works
  • Competitive all-round compensation package

Do you recognise yourself in this profile, and are you eager to join our team?

We highlight that the mix of skill required – being able to understand complex regulation and to explain it to a 5-year-old – is a high bar to reach. Thus, we are open to applicants able to fulfil part of the requirements but with a strong desire to expand their abilities and grow as a more well-rounded professional over time. Please apply by submitting your CV, academic transcripts (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and a motivation letter (you can also choose to make a 2-minute video outlining your motivation). A verbal and numerical assessment may be part of the application process.
